Outdoor motion sensors

Over the past twenty five years, our company has seen many versions of outdoor motion detection come and go.  Until a year ago, I had yet to see an outdoor detector that wasn’t prone to false alarms.

We even tried some high end detectors that retailed for over $1,500, not including wiring and labor.  Sooner or later, they all resulted in a false alarm.

Currently we have identified two solutions that have been game changers.  In this post I’ll discuss the Videofied system.  In a separate post, I’ll cover how to leverage your existing standard security cameras with video analytics and another method for having live operators verify that unauthorized people are on your property at a very low cost.

Videofied motion sensors, with video verification.  Upon sensing motion, these detectors transmit a 10 second video clip to central station.   Before the event is escalated to an alarm, it is verified by live human operators. If a person cannot be seen in the clip; no alarm is registered. We have used this in the most harsh warehouse, on a rooftop in a heavily wooded residential area, and behind a retail store.  After several hundred days service, not one false alarm has occurred.

This is  a great way to secure any outdoor fenced in area, such as a storage yard,  air conditioner security, or construction site security. Anywhere that outdoor motion detection is needed.   Compare the cost of protecting a construction site with an after hours guard, for say $2,000 to $3,000 per month, to Videofied, for well under $100 per month!

If you have other outdoor areas to protect, such as boats, yachts, car lots, etc, this may be the solution you are looking for.  Other applications could include power plant protection, water treatment plant protection and radio towers.

It is also wireless, uses cellular transmission, so no phone line or power source is needed.   For less than the cost of installing a standard security camera, you can get a video verified motion detector, with around the clock human monitoring.
